Neuqua Valley’s rugby team fights in state playoffs

The Neuqua Valley Mens’ rugby team played the South Suburban Cobras (Lincolnway’s combined) at Commissioners Park on Tuesday, May 22nd. The game was a semi final match in lieu of the Rugby state tournament. The rugby team has made excellent strides all year since their 2017 D1 state championship.

In Tuesday night’s game, the Wildcats started out red hot from the beginning with a Will Chevalier (Junior) score. Chevalier didn’t stop there, but scored again to bring the Cats up by 12 points. Chevalier was a big leader in the Wildcat offense for the night. After offensive success, the wildcats turned up their defense. The cats played scrappy and right before halftime, rugby player Michael Callada (Senior) took down an opponent out of bounds to create momentum. The Wildcats were fired up out of  halftime and continued to make successful offensive strides. Mike Baumgardner (Senior) worked his own magic in the second half to bring Neuqua even closer to the win. The Wildcats beat the South Suburban Cobras 58-5 and will move on to the State Championship and hope to defend their state title.
