On Saturday, January 29th, Neuqua Valley is hosting the Fill the Skate Fundraiser. It will take place from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM at the Jewel Grocery Store on the corner of 95th and 59. This event is to raise money for the 9th Annual District 203/204 Shootout for Cancer, which will take place at 7:00 PM on Friday, February 11, at the Rocket Ice Arena in Bolingbrook.
The Shootout for Cancer was established by Brian Kenny in 2003. This Neuqua graduate and All-State Hockey Goalie spent the majority of his junior year in high school battling testicular cancer. After recovering, Kenney was inspired to give back to the people who played an important role in his life, the American Cancer Society.
Eight years ago, Kenney was able to create this Shootout, which has grown to raise over $152,000 to fund the fight against cancer. This fundraiser is enjoyed by the students, players, and the community. Some of the events that take place include a luminaria ceremony, honoring cancer victims and survivors, as
well as a shootout for all teachers.
The most important event that night is the hockey game between rival schools from both district 203 and 204. Waubonsie, Metea, Naperville North, and Naperville Central Hockey teams all join with Neuqua to create a fun-filled evening. 100% of all proceeds go to the DuPage Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
