Student DJs Capturing Attention

December 16, 2010

When seniors Aswin Sivaraman and Zachary Tretter were at a party during spring break of last year, they noticed the DJ didn’t use his equipment to its full extent. They figured he could use similar equipment to produce a better product. Shortly after, Team Azure was created. Team Azure is a mobile DJ group that provides their own entertainment.

Team Azure has played various types of events. They DJ at graduation parities, house parties, weddings, and have even played at a JSA convention. The average attendance of a Team Azure event is in the hundreds. Since March, they’ve been constantly growing and don’t plan to stop anytime soon.
“The Team plans to expand within the school by getting involved in events to come second semester. We’ll most likely get more well-known through word of mouth, and of course, we’d love to DJ any sort of party” explained Aswin. “It’s cool because the school administration has recognized our efforts and people have been really receptive to the idea of student DJs.”
Being a student DJ hasn’t always been recognized however. There was a time where Team Azure was barely known. However, Team Azure has been an incredible passion for the both of them. Even when they were just starting off, the rush of being a DJ has never gotten old.
“It’s really a fun experience. For the most part, you put together songs that you know and love, but whenever you get those requests or someone gets you a new song, it’s fun to experiment with,” said Aswin. “During shows, you get to follow the crowd and manipulate the chill moments with the intense moments, and it’s a great feeling.”
Team Azure has captured Neuqua’s attention through remixing songs and playing various types of dance music.  While Team Azure is mostly just a hobby, Aswin Sivaraman and Zachary Tretter have shown a dedicated commitment.
