Remembering Antinette Keller

November 29, 2010

Toni Keller, 2010 Neuqua Valley graduate, went missing on October 14th. Keller was enrolled in Northern Illinois University, and was visiting the DeKalb Prairie Park when she went missing. When charred human remains were found in the same park, DeKalb police forces took suspect William Kurl into custody for the murder of Toni Keller.

Though this event is certainly a tragedy, all friends and family of the 18 year old are trying to celebrate her life by recalling fond memories. “She was quirky in a good way,” Neuqua Valley guidance counselor said, “She always had an artistic side, and it showed in her presentation of herself.” Many other people had happy memories of Keller. “She just had a positive outlook on life,” friend Mandy Kontos said, “She wasn’t scared of challenges. She was one of the most thoughtful students I have had.”

Keller certainly was an individual. She was a vegetarian and was constantly expressing herself through her artwork.

Friends and family described her as a free spirit with a lot of cheerfulness. Keller was even involved in a class at Northern Illinois University where students went on many different adventures. Keller was said to be one of the most involved members in the class, her happy demeanor always shining through. In fact, Keller would even sing Disney songs during the class canoe trips.

In addition, Northern Illinois University has created the Antinette “Toni” Keller Scholarship fund, which will give grants to students planning to enter their school as a studio art major. Undoubtedly, this reflects the amount of love for Keller that was felt all throughout Northern Illinois University.

Though we know there is not much that can be changed in this sorrowful situation, we can still pray that justice is shown in the murder trial of William Kurl.

Meanwhile, the heart of Neuqua Valley High School goes out to Keller’s family as they attempt to deal with this terrible loss. Toni Keller, you will be sincerely missed.
