The summer of 2010 marked one of Pakistan’s deadliest flood disasters that the population has faced since the existence of the nation. A variety of non-profit organizations, such as the American Red Cross and UNICEF, are responding to the national cry for aid and support.
Recent counts show that over twenty one million victims have been injured or homeless including 2000 victims who have died from the catastrophe. Proportional to other prominent natural disaster, this flood disaster has affected the lives of more people than the Haiti Earthquake and Tsunamis combined and has rapidly spread diseases including cholera and diarrhea from lack of a sanitary water supply.

Throughout the month, the Neuqua Valley social studies department has set up a charity aimed towards aiding the Pakistan flood victims and rebuilding the nation. This year, the Neuqua Valley Muslim Student Association has put together a presentation that is to be viewed by all students currently enrolled in a social studies course. A container will be placed in each classroom for students to donate at any time throughout the month of October and into November.
One of the presidents of the MSA, Salman Islam, said that the club plans to hand over all of the donated money to a reputable organization, the American Red Cross, that has actively aided the flood victims by providing basic necessities of survival to over five thousand families including food, water, clothing, and shelter.
This devastation has put tears to eyes of tens of thousands of people and the aid from the student body of Neuqua Valley will support a multitude of victims.
