Homecoming is fast-approaching, and for the female students of Neuqua Valley, that means one thing- it’s dress shopping time. Every year, millions of teenage girls across the country stress themselves out in quest of “the perfect dress”.
The perfect dress is a myth however, because every girl’s “perfect dress” is different from the next. Still, though every girl is entitled to her own style and taste, there are some prevailing trends this season in homecoming dresses. Sparkles, gems, and general bedazzlement are all extremely popular this fall. In addition, bright, jewel-toned dresses in satin fabrics have remained a popular staple in homecoming finery.
There are more important things than following trends in the pursuit of the perfect dress: picking a style that is flattering for your body shape is equally important. If you have a pear-shaped body, choose a dress which is fitted in the bust, with a full or a-line skirt. If you’re pear shaped but you like to flaunt your full behind, go for something a little more fitted. If you’re slender and looking to add the illusion of curves to your slim silhouette, choose a dress that draws attention to your bust or waist, or a dress whose skirt flairs out. Another great style for the slender shaped woman is the wrap dress, or other such styles which bring attention to one’s waist. If you’re bustier, you might think finding a dress is impossible- but fear no more! If you’d like to flaunt your fuller front, a dress with a gorgeous neckline, embellished by gems or draping will do the trick.
If you’re looking to dance the night away and not worry about any wardrobe malfunctions, a halter dress will bring emphasis to the bust, while
also providing fuller coverage and sufficient support. The petite people of the world have always feared being drowned by their dress, or worse, the dress wearing them, rather than them wearing the dress. Give yourself the illusion of length and height by wearing a short dress which shows some leg, or asymmetrical hemlines, which also give the appearance of added elevation.Â
If you want to wear a full length gown, beware- go for simpler shapes with minimal volume, so as to not appear overwhelmed by the dress. If you have an hourglass shape, feel free to wear any style! You’re naturally well-proportioned, so most styles will flatter your figure. In any case, dresses which are fitted throughout the dress, or simply in the skirt, will show off your curves and give you the appearance of an elegant, old Hollywood starlet. For girls with an apple shape, or a thin torso, but a bit of a stomach or behind, go for dresses which are fitted in the bust, and loose in the skirt.
Empire waists are extremely flattering and will make you appear slimmer and svelter.  Remember, these are just friendly tips to help aid in the dress shopping experience- wear whatever you want!
Confidence is the key to rocking any dress, so buy whatever you feel beautiful in!
