2011: The Year of the Nugget

September 30, 2010

An epidemic is sweeping the halls of Neuqua Valley High School. Ask any student about “nuggeting” and the chance that they would be able to define it for you is nearly guaranteed.

“Nuggeting” is a term used to describe the outcome of taking ones backpack and turning it inside out, with their materials inside of it. This prank received an enormous comeback at the outset of the school year, with students suddenly wondering why their backpacks were turned inside out.

Many students and teachers may wonder what the appeal of the craze is. Senior Dominic Glimco says that: “Nuggeting is a good prank because the only harm it causes is the slight emotional humiliation that you get when you see your backpack in nugget form and have to carry it around in the hallway like a small child.”

It would appear that the main effect of this prank is a kind of light-hearted humiliation. Many consider this to be the top tier of pranks, with its exhilarating execution and generally un-harmful consequences.

“It’s a good prank because people feel really stupid when they see their backpack and realize it’s inside out and don’t have time to fix it before going to their next class.” says Senior Stephanie Lona, a self-proclaimed “Nuggeter”.

Some teachers have declared their classrooms a “no-nuggeting zone”, but most teachers are generally apathetic or find it amusing. An interesting point to mention is that Neuqua banned the practice of nuggeting last school year, but seems to have forgotten about it. Perhaps they realized that the prank isn’t mean-spirited, but very light-hearted and whimsical.

If you are nuggeted, don’t get mad, rather take it in stride, laugh about it, and watch your backpack more closely.
