Obama Wins Peace Prize
November 24, 2009
As President Barack Obama recently won the Nobel Peace Prize, it is clear that Europe loves Obama. European approval ratings are at an all time high with numbers such as 88 percent in France and 92 percent in Germany versus the current 48 percent in America. Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama was basically a formal declaration of Europe’s obsession with Obama.
To the Nobel Organization, Obama is a global figure while they say, “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.” In fact, the announcement statement says that not only has Obama given the world hope, he has preached the very same virtues that the European Nobel Prize organization has held.
With such high approval ratings in different countries and heavy criticism from Americans on winning the Prize, one wonders exactly what country Obama is president of.
American’s approval ratings have been dipping since Obama was sworn into office, which is why it is ironic that he wins such a prestigious award. Even President Obama was surprised saying, “I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize.”
To many of America’s puzzlement, the award was for Obama’s care for other countries besides America. A statement released at the time of the award says,”[Obama’s] diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.” It also says “Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the UN and other international institutions can play.”
Through this it is clear that the Nobel Prize committee is awarding Obama the award because he has shown an increasing desire to take part in world activities because he has taken America out of his diplomacy.
