Joseph Naper’s Cabin

November 24, 2009

To honor the founder of Naperville, Joseph Naper, The Naperville Heritage Society is planning on displaying his unfinished log cabin in his honor. The cabin is placed on 338 W. Jefferson Ave, which was also the location of the first trading post of the town.

During an excavation over the summer that lasted from August 6th through August 13th, archeologists found the north wall of his cabin, a clay pipe imported from England, and a Russian trading bead, all dated around the same time Naperville was founded.

These finds lead the archaelogists to belief he had set up the cabin and trading post not long after he had arrived, and, indirectly, created the Naperville of today.
