There’s a buzz among many of the main building seniors, and this time it has nothing to do with the usual ailment—senioritis. A handful of students have started what they call the “Party Planning Committee” or “Double P C of Neuqua Valley,” in hopes of creating a more interesting senior year.
“In the beginning of the year, everyone at the main building was bummed because over half of our class is over at Frontier,” said Megan Taylor, Senior and PPC Secretary, “and we kinda feel like we got the shaft. So we had to do something to make it more fun.”
Michelle Kay, Senior and PPC President said that “We’re not trying to like exile Frontier [students]… [We]’ve just heard they don’t really care.” This seems to be supported by comments from the Frontier students. “I kind of knew about it,” said Marcus Walton, Senior and Frontier student, “but I don’t know if waking up at five is the greatest idea just to try to make it seem cool to go to the main building.” Skeeter Plowman, another Frontier Senior, demonstrated his apathy about the PPC: “I love those kinds of pipes.”
The members of the PPC kicked off their group with pre-school tailgate. On the morning of one of the late-arrival Wednesdays in September, organizers forced themselves out of bed early to set up games of bags, breakfast food, drinks, and music for main-building seniors to enjoy before heading into school. “We’re gonna try to make it a monthly thing,” said Taylor.
“Our first theme day was Tube Sock Day, where everyone just wore their tube socks,” explained Kay. They plan to continue with creative themes throughout the year, “Since everyone was asking ‘why is everyone wearing tube socks?’ it started to get the word out.”
Complete with a Facebook group and appointed seniors: President Michelle Kay, Vice President Jonathan Ballew, Treasurer Max Stunkel, Secretary Megan Taylor, Ambassador Billy Sharpf; and an “Official Senior at Neuqua Who Carries a Briefcase,” Sam Ide; the PPC seems to be serious about their fun. They are also serious, though, about the type of fun they represent. Taylor explained, “we’re gonna keep it super respectful, we don’t want to get in trouble or do anything that’s even borderline.”
