Recently, District 204 has established an online TIPline, a way for students and parents in the district to report safety concerns with complete anonymity. In accompaniment with a safety video narrated by Principal Bob McBride, every student at Neuqua was given a “d204 TIPline” postcard in advisory.
The TIPline was “a product of the district…designed to open up communication lines at school,” explained Assistant Principal Lance Fuhrer. “What research says about school tragedies, [like] Columbine, is that everyone knew what the kids were planning, but yet, no one wanted to say anything.”
Tips received on the website, www.ipsd.org /TIPS, are viewed by the principal. In Neuqua’s case, when McBride receives a tip, he works directly with deans to investigate the information. As of now, while no TIPline information has been successfully carried out, there have been legitimate reports that are still being investigated.
