Making the Move to Metea
March 4, 2009
A new school means a lot of new changes. With Metea Valley being nearly complete and to be opened at the start of the next school year a lot of changes are being implemented. The students and parents have voiced their opinions, but they are not the only ones being affected by the new school. With a new school means new teachers, but that would be a lot of new teachers so some of Neuqua’s favorite teachers are making a move to Metea.
All of the teachers moving to Metea can be found on the District 204’s website. Of course Neuqua teachers are not the only ones going to Metea. Other high schools in the area have teachers teaching there next year. Teachers from all departments are going to Metea. The new school will be well stocked with some of the best teachers in the district. The teachers were not forced to make the move; they all had the option to go. They were given a survey and if they were interested they could apply to go. There are no hard feelings about going to Metea because the teachers chose to go.
Mr. DeVany, a band teacher, is going to Metea next year and is excited about it. He will be the Fine Arts Department Chair, which is a very important position. His career at Neuqua has been short, but he is well loved by his students. Another teacher making the change is Ms. Willig of the math department. She is also happy to go to Metea Valley next year. She is looking forward to “being part of a ‘new’ school and being one of the people to help create a positive environment, academically, athletically, and socially”
Of course the teachers have formed bonds with the amazing staff and students here at Neuqua and they will be missed. When Mr. DeVany was asked what he would miss he stated the “amazing student and staff.” Ms. Willig said she would miss the “many people that have touched [her] and [she] appreciates [it] very much.”
Some parents and students have negative views on all the changes going on in the district, but the teachers have put a positive spin on it. They look at it as a time for new experiences and good changes. All the changes do not have to be seen as bad because some of them are good.
