Top Three Acts of the Variety Show
January 22, 2009
While this year’s Neuqua Valley Variety Show was filled with original and entertaining talent acts, three groups were especially captivating.
Caucasian Invasion, a group consisting of Senior Paul Anderson, Senior Connor Austell, Senior Gus Buchannan, Senior Kevin Cline, Senior O.P. Hayauddin, Senior Jack Maples, Senior Todd Marishta, Senior Will McClung, Senior Kevin Meehan, and Senior Sean Pierce, ran onstage in cut-off shorts and Hawaiian T-shirts and proceeded to move in what can only be described as a unique and clever dance interpretation. Taking the audience by surprise, Caucasian Invasion’s act is certainly an engaging one.
In the second act, Senior Ross Cochran presented stand-up comedy with a refreshingly teenage appeal. From comments on the wild “animal” couples to “Facebook creeping,” Cochran had the entire audience in laughter in under a half a minute. The show remained engaging and original as members of the audience shouted comments and Cochran responded with sharp and witty statements of his own.
Senior Darilyn Burtley’s vocal solo of “Home,” her variation of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” was an ambitious, yet well deserved choice. Her impressive vocal range and passionate singing led to the only standing ovation of the night. Truly a talented speaker, she was a favorite amongst the Neuqua students and parents alike.
