“All is Well” at Crystal Concert

December 18, 2008

The Wildcat’s music program is one of the best in the district. The Marching band’s drum line came in third place this year and they have won a Grammy for their music department. In the fall, the music department has a show that has a Halloween theme, and in December, it is all about the Crystal Concert. Every year the best musicians in the school play in small groups throughout the concert. It is very prestigious to be chosen to play in the small groups. Almost every Neuqua student knows about this event, and it is always a race to get tickets.

The students that play the main showcase get the most attention, but there other musicians that are just as vitally important to the show. They are the ones that play before the show. They are the small groups. They set up the show beforehand with beautiful music and really set the essence of the show. The audience is never bored before because of the talented musicians. It was like a sample of what was yet to come in the spectacular show. About four to five students were in each small group. The small groups were split into two different groups vocal and instrumental.

The students that were chosen to be in the small groups also performed in the main showcase. The entire concert went on seamlessly. There was never an awkward pause or a big break. It went from one song to another. The band opened up the concert with a show stopping performance. It was apparent to the audience that these talented young musicians put their full dedication into this show. The chorus was just as well rehearsed and delivered stellar performances one after another.

The décor of the show was set up like a “Winter Wonderland.” There were giant snow flakes hanging from the walls and ceiling and holiday lights decorating the auditorium. The musicians were very professional looking in their black and white attire; with hints of red on some of them.

There were the classical music pieces, but the audience was never bored because they also performed fun holiday songs. Some of the songs were Sleigh Ride, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer and Walking in a Winter Wonderland/ Santa Clause is Coming to Town. The finale alone was one of a kind. All of the musical groups in Neuqua played or sang in it. The chorus and the orchestra started it off then the band entered for an epic ending. It was apparent to the audience that these musicians worked in incredibly hard and showed their best.
