Saw V: Scary Halloween Treat

October 25, 2008

As the Halloween season comes upon us, like clockwork, another installment into the Saw saga graces the silver screen. Due to the fact that this is in fact the fifth Saw to come out in less than ten years, many movie goers and Saw fans alike will debate whether this movie is worth seeing. However, one thing is certain; this film will be filled to the brim with large amounts of grotesque, gory traps.Although the Saw series is known primarily for traps that would make Rube Goldberg feel envious, what most people fail to realize, there is actually an ongoing plot. The latest installment is set to be released on October 24, 2008. Unlike the previous films, Saw V was not directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, but instead by David Hack. Hack was the production designer of Saw II, III, and IV; he was also the second-unit director for Saw III and IV. Even though there is a new director for Saw V, Darren Lynn Bousman fans of the Saw series can rest assured that the latest addition will not lose any of the gruesome traps that they have come to know and love. Although the plot of the film has not been officially released, numerous blogs across the internet are speculating about possible characters reappearing, new traps, and what type of grisly twist this film will include. Most fans of the saga have been in favor of the first couple Saw films, but have been somewhat disappointed with III and IV, so hopefully the new director ,Bousman, will go back to the original formula that has brought more and more fans to the Saw saga. After compiling the different theories about Saw V, no matter how outrageous they were, Fandango.com was able to form an accurate synopsis about the film, “In the fifth installment of the Saw franchise, Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy. But, when his secret is threatened, he must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends.”

This Halloween season, fans of the previous Saw films will be counting down the days till this movie is released, but for the rest of the student body, if someone wants a fun scare during Halloween, then this film is ideal. Not to mention, that this is one of the few horror movies that will be released within a couple weeks of Halloween. Newcomers to the Saw series should hold caution to the fact that this is a very violent and brutal movie, but still could turn out to be a scary treat for this season.
